Schooners has been a staple of Peoria for over 40 years. Greg Gebhards wanted to be sure two things would become the trademark of the bar: having the coldest beer in town and having the best chicken.
Quickly other staples became signatures of the establishment - their wings, the people - both working and patronizing Schooners – their king tenderloin sandwich, which achieved national acclaim with the help of Jeff Mauro from the food network, and their onion rings.

With a history as long as Schooners, there’s bound to be some fun surprises along the way. As is the magic of the neighborhood watering hole, unexpected surprises pop up. Especially for the journalists and radio personalities of Peoria. In fact, one afternoon a local radio personality, Crow Carroll, wrote a now famous jingle on a bar napkin that was used to wake the astronaut crew on the Columbia Space Shuttle one morning during their mission in 1992.
